The aim of this project is to become a “millionaire of trees”

VICTOR VAN GAASBEEK

HOW IT STARTED

ThirtyTree is an inspiring project by artist and designer Victor van Gaasbeek. After turning 33, he felt a strong desire to start doing side-projects again, reminiscent of how he kickstarted his creative career. Climate issues and humanity’s connection to the natural world have always been recurring themes in those projects. So it felt only natural to delve into this issue once more, but this time with a clear goal—to make a tangible and meaningful impact.

The idea for the project was found online. Amidst the vast sea of influencers on Instagram, Victor found himself immersed in a bubble of money-making advice, ranging from cryptocurrency to dropshipping, all with the singular goal of becoming a millionaire as quickly as possible. Seeing this as a symptom of what’s wrong with the world he found himself thinking “what if (business) success was measured in positive environmental impact”. Rather than pursuing monetary riches, he aspired to become a “millionaire of trees“. And so the seed for this remarkable project was planted.

Victor created an artwork out of vintage botanical and ornithological illustrations, carefully selected to evoke a sense of nostalgia and appreciation for the natural world. Each purchase of this artwork does not only plants a single tree—it plants an impressive 33 trees. With each order, a mini forest takes root, symbolizing genuine and lasting change.
